Sprayberry High School PTSA

Sprayberry Accolades!

Sprayberry is proud to once again be included in the Washington Post’s list of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools.” The rankings are computed through an index formula that calculates the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year. This year, only 12 percent of the approximately 22,000 U.S. public high schools were placed on this national list.

65th Anniversary Alumni Outreach

SHS Administration is excited to hear that many former students have begun to hear from our new partners at Publishing Concepts! As many of you are aware, our 65th anniversary is coming up, and we are working on updating contact info for as many of our alumni as we can. If you should receive a card like the one pictured here, please rest assured that the company is working on our behalf to help with the creation of our very first ALUMNI DIRECTORY.  You don’t have to purchase a directory in order to be included, so we hope you’ll take the time to let us know the best way for all of your classmates to get in touch with you.  We’ll be sending more information on the 65th Anniversary celebration soon, so be on the lookout! If you’ve not yet received a card, you can contact them directly at 1-800-488-7413. Thank you!

Did You Know There Is A Food Pantry At SHS And You Can Help Stock It For Only $6?

Extreme Couponing Program for the Food Pantry That Serves Bells Ferry ES, Daniell MS, & Sprayberry HS

Extreme Couponing is a program created to stock the food pantry located in Sprayberry High School. This pantry serves students and families at SHS, DMS, and BFES. Once a month, selected families are able to come to the pantry and get four bags of food, toiletries, and household items.

The Extreme Couponing program is how the food pantry gets stocked efficiently, keeping the cost of donating low which in turn makes it accessible to most community members.

The Sprayberry food pantry is an extension of the Alive Ministries’ Save It forward initiative, which provides food and toiletries for Cobb County students in need. They currently have 15 food pantries operating in 15 different schools around the county.

Another neat aspect of this initiative is the involvement of the special needs students at SHS. They shop, cut coupons, and work at the Alive Ministries central food warehouse. In addition, they are helping to maintain and organize the pantry.

How it works:

  1. Each week, Alive Ministries combs through the weekly advertisements for Publix and Kroger; they also sort & clip free coupons. Specifically, they target shelf-stable food basics/staples along with basic toiletry and household items.
  2. Alive Ministries then assembles a short shopping list for each store (Publix and Kroger) with the expected before-tax total of under $6.00.
  3. Envelopes are prepared with the shopping list and coupons. These are placed in a secure area at each school, with the shop-by dates (which correlate with the weekly ad time tables) printed on the front.
  4. Volunteer shoppers (that’s you!) pick up an envelope for their preferred store (Publix or Kroger), shop according to the enclosed list, and return purchased items to the staff mail room.

How you can help:

YOU can help – every week or once a month or even just whenever you’re able!

Just stop by the office at one of our participating schools (Bells Ferry, Daniell, or Sprayberry) to pick up an envelope. Then shop and return the items to one of the schools. It’s very easy and you’ll never know what a difference you’re making to a family who needs a little help.

The more shoppers, the more food, and the more families we can help! Remember that this pantry serves our area, so the items you purchase are helping the families of students right here.
