Campus College Visits (at SHS)

This year Sprayberry High School is having College Admission Representatives visit during the Academic Opportunity periods on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Juniors and Seniors only may sign up to visit with these representatives through the counseling office appointment laptop. Students will need to come to the counseling office to reserve their space for the visit. These are limited in space! Please see the dates listed below, so your student can come in and sign-up! You can also find these listed month to month on the counseling Web site.

Every year the U.S. Department of Education helps connect nearly 15 million incoming college students with over $150 billion in education funding, and it all begins with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Given the complexity of the FAFSA, education experts at BestColleges.com have published the easy-to-follow guide, Understanding the FAFSA, which includes detailed sections on:

  • What you need before you get started
  • A section-by-section guide on completing the FAFSA
  • What to do once you fill out the forms

Up Next is a FREE college access tool that gives high school and college students, parents, and college counselors across the country personalized support on all things college – college search and application, federal student aid, even student loan repayment – all through texting. Learn How to Become
Learn more about non-traditional careers for women including opportunities and benefits for women in male-dominated professions. You can learn more at the Learn How to Become website by visiting the non-traditional careers for women page.
Male and Female students interested in various careers can go to the Learn How to Become website to learn how to turn your passion into a career or how to take your interests and turn it into a job.

Khan Academy offers study assistance with a variety of subjects but did you know they also offer college resources? They offer an online resource that covers how to navigate the college application process, how to write a great essay, financial aid, and more.

Chegg offers information on colleges, high school homework help (free 30 minutes online tutoring), and once you get into college you can save on your college textbooks.

Cappex offers college searches, reviews by those who have attended, and college scholarships.

College Success for Women in STEM

GIRLS, SHOW US YOUR SUPERPOWERS!
Have you discovered the superpower of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math)? Can you imagine sharing your superpower of STEM on national television? Girls ages 15-18, in grades 10-12, are encouraged to channel their superpower of STEM for a chance to win a trip to the world premiere of MARVEL STUDIOS’ THOR: RAGNAROK, an immersive three-day mentorship in New York City with Disney Imagineering, the opportunity to appear on Good Morning America, and more! CEO of My Life – GA Tech
They are now accepting applications for their Fall & Spring Jr. IncYOUbator at Georgia Institute of Technology. The Jr. IncYOUbator is a semester long program experience to help youth build soft skills, S.T.E.A.M. awareness, entrepreneurial mindsets and develop the creative confidence to launch 21st careers and businesses in the innovation economy. They accept grades 6th-12th. Application deadline is September 18, 2017.

2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: Submissions being accepted now!
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is now accepting submissions from students across the country in grades 7–12 for the 2018 awards! Students are invited to submit creative and original work in any of the Awards’ 29 art and writing categories, including architecture, paintingflash fiction, poetryprintmaking, and video game design.
